An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Lawyer to join a growing Environment & Planning team based in Sydney, within a premier Australian law firm with a strong national presence across all capital cities.
Working closely with multiple partners and supported by a high-performing team, this role offers a balanced mix of advisory and contentious work across a broad range of planning and environmental matters.
You will act for a diverse client base including government bodies, private developers, and commercial organisations.
The Role
You will be exposed to the full spectrum of Environment & Planning work, including:
Advising on strategic and statutory planning matters
Assisting with the preparation of development applications, from due diligence through to negotiating conditions
Acting in Planning and Environment Court appeals and declaratory proceedings
Preparing and negotiating infrastructure agreements
Providing advisory and contentious support on environmental licensing, compliance, and contaminated land issues
Defending environmental statutory compliance actions and related proceedings
Advising on cultural heritage and land acquisition matters
Prosecuting unlawful development on behalf of local government clients
Supporting firm-wide due diligence and transactional matters involving planning and environmental considerations
Providing advice in administrative law and general planning, environmental, and compulsory acquisition matters
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
3–4 years’ years experience
Experience in environment and/or planning law gained at a reputable commercial law firm or in-house
Strong knowledge of NSW planning laws (highly regarded)
Excellent technical, drafting, and communication skills
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
